Use of Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve to Evaluate a Street Lighting Control System

Intelligent control of public lighting is nowadays one the most challenging issues in smart city deployment. Lighting optimization entails a compromise between comfort, safety, and power consumption, affecting both vehicles pedestrians. Smart solutions must estimate their characteristics to trade-off users’ needs energy requirements. This paper proposes an intelligent street system Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve method evaluate best number lamps achieve balance road user comfort consumption. The based on detection users, mainly pedestrians, using presence sensors. From pedestrian by two or more consecutive it possible determine speed. Knowing speed, allows anticipate adjust light intensity remaining lamps, provide comfortable view street. Using ROC curve, we algorithm terms previous used. We have tested model pedestrians walking down obtained results show that analysis used measuring whole system’s efficiency providing concrete lamps.
